Brooks Brothers, the iconic American brand, and Fluidesign, a renowned boat maker from London, Ontario, have teamed up to create an impressive addition to HOCR history. The pair’s tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Head Of The Charles Regatta is a very unique lightweight single shell. Christened the ‘BB1’, the shell is a sight to be seen, and will be on display outside the Brooks Brothers tent for the duration of the regatta.

The hull itself is a striking burgundy, navy, and gold, the pattern based on a Brooks Brothers classic, the famous BB#1 Repp stripe tie. Brook Brothers introduced the tie to the US as a spin off of a classic UK military tie design over one hundred years ago, and it has been a favorite ever since.

Emblazoned also with the 50th HOCR logo, the boat is a tribute to the regatta’s history and style. While it won’t be used in the regatta, the shell is completely functional and could, theoretically, be raced.

The shell will take up residence at the Brooks Brothers store in New York City once the regatta is over. It will be on display among many other iconic American style artifacts, a nod to the importance of rowing and The Head Of The Charles Regatta in American culture. Perhaps spectators will see a ‘BB2’ next year; but, until then, the ‘BB1’ will continue to garner interest and excitement from crowds of regatta spectators and competitors.
