What Do James Bond and the HOCR Have in Common?

At this year’s Head of the Charles spectators can behold feats of speed both on and off the water. Off the water, nothing look so impressively strong as four Aston Martin sports cars parked at Cambridge Boat Club and at the finish line. Aston Martin joined the Regatta this year as a premier sponsor and the official automotive sponsor of the Head of the Charles. The four cars have come in for more than a little ogling, from rowers and fans alike.

The Head of the Charles mirrors many of Aston Martin’s values, according to Beth Blake, an Aston Martin marketing representative and on site spokesperson. “There’s a strong aspect of teamwork and precision in rowing that’s also found in our cars,” said Blake.

Aston Martin’s first involvement with rowing came earlier this year in their sponsorship of the 2017 Henley Royal Regatta. Blake, who rowed competitively during her time at UCLA, says that Aston Martin decided to sponsor both the Henley Royal Regatta and the Head of the Charles as the two events complement each other.

Bruce Ackman, a Head of the Charles volunteer, was happy to get a chance to check out the Aston Martin Vanquish S in front of Cambridge Boat Club this year. “Head of the Charles is a classy event and Aston Martin is another sponsor that aligns with that, it’s good for the event,” said Ackman.

While Head of the Charles car enthusiasts won’t be able take home an Aston Martin from the Regatta this weekend, they can arrange a test drive. Or, channel their inner James Bond with an Aston Martin branded latte at The Coffee Trike at FALS.
