HOCR 2020: Frequently Asked Questions

Please use this page as a reference for the most frequently asked questions about the 2020 Head Of The Charles Regatta. If you have any other questions, please email regatta@hocr.org.

Q: When is the Head Of The Charles Regatta?

A: October 17-18, 2020

Q: When will registration open?

A: Registration is scheduled to open on July 27th. We are working on a constant basis to review and act in accordance with USRowing and federal state guidelines. We will update this page and our Covid-19 Race Updates page if the opening date changes. Athletes and teams with guaranteed entries may register in July.

Q: If the Regatta is cancelled, when will this announcement be made?

A: The HOCR will announce any change to its format or cancellation by July 31st at the latest. Please keep your travel and accommodation plans flexible until July 31st.

Q: I heard that decisions had already been made to scale back or cancel the Regatta.

A: No, no decisions have yet been made to change the format of the Regatta. However, the chances that this year’s Regatta, if it goes ahead, will offer the regular full schedule of events are low. We do believe that it is important to prepare for a range of scenarios, and we have asked our team and committees to do advanced planning so that we can be ready should we need to adapt the format of the Regatta.

Q: My application was accepted and I was charged for my entry. Will I receive a refund?

A: Yes, RegattaCentral will issue refunds less a merchant processing fee for entry fees should there be an event cancellation announcement.

Please note that guaranteed entries are charged immediately, and applications are only charged if accepted through the lottery.

Q: I can no longer travel to Boston due to COVID-19. Can I roll my entry over to 2021?

A: Yes, if you had an accepted entry and then cannot travel to Boston due to COVID-19 we will issue a refund and guarantee your entry for 2021.

Q: I am registered in the Charity Program this year and have already fulfilled my fundraising commitment. Can I roll my entry and funds over to 2021?

A: We will be happy to include you in the Charity Program in 2021. You may roll your funds over to 2021 if absolutely necessary, but please consider continuing your fundraising campaign in 2021.
