Join the Head Of The Charles Regatta Lifeguard Team!

The Head Of The Charles Regatta (HOCR), America’s premier rowing competition, returns to the Charles River October 21 – 23, 2022. We invite qualified volunteers to join our lifeguard team and be a part of this exciting event.

Qualifications:

• Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and have current certifications for Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and AED. Please note: certifications must be valid through October 23, 2022.*
• All volunteers must by fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to participate.**

Responsibilities:

• Lifeguards will be stationed in powerboats along the three mile race course. Guards will be paired with a HAM radio operator for communications, and will have a dedicated boat driver.
• Guards will be responsible for responding to any on-the-water incident, including first aid, CPR, water rescue and hypothermia.
• HOCR will provide all necessary supplies, including first aid kits, rescue tubes, and PFDs.

Shifts available: 

• Friday, October 21,  6:00am – 6:00pm
• Saturday, October 22, 6:00am – 6:00pm
• Sunday, October 23,  6:00am – 6:00pm

***Please note: Shifts are 12 hours long and all guards are expected to work the entire shift. Meals and brief breaks will be provided.***

Perks:

• New for 2022: all lifeguards will have the option to receive volunteer hours for community service requirements OR $21/hour for each hour worked
• All volunteers will receive the official HOCR volunteer “premium” from Vineyard Vines, the Official Style of the Head of the Charles Regatta.
• Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all lifeguards, as well, as snacks, water and coffee throughout the shift.
• HOCR will complete paperwork submitted to confirm volunteer hours for community service requirements.

* If you are interested in volunteering, but are not yet certified, we may be able to help. Please contact us for more information. (Individuals must be at least 16 years of age at the time of hire and able to swim 500 yards in under 11 minutes.)

** Fully vaccinated individuals are those who have received two doses of either the Pfizer/Moderna vaccines, or one dose of the Janssen/Johnson&Johnson vaccine, with at least two weeks having elapsed since the final dose. A third “booster” dose is not required for participation. If you were vaccinated outside of the U.S., please contact us to confirm eligibility.
