Boston, MA (May 31, 2019) – Head Of The Charles Regatta Executive Director Fred Schoch returns to his role as Lead Announcer for the 117th Annual Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship this weekend. The three-day event begins Friday, May 31 at 8 a.m., and concludes with an awards ceremony Sunday morning. Mr. Schoch has been the voice of both the Men’s Sprints and the IRA Championships for the better part of 20 years.

The championship rowing event will be available free on USRowing’s YouTube channel. Additionally, the footage streamed over the weekend will be archived on the YouTube channel for those unable to tune in live.

“I’m very excited to be back in the chase boat for this year’s IRA National Championships,” said Schoch – who is also preparing for the 55th Head Of The Charles Regatta. “This is one of the most important and signature events in the rowing world, and it’s truly my pleasure to be a part of it again.”

Schoch will be supported by fellow Bostonian and Northeastern grad Colleen Saville as well as former Head Men’s Coach of Oregon State Steve Todd.

Schoch graduated from Washington in 1973 and was Head Coach of the Georgetown rowing team before being named Executive Director at Head Of The Charles in 1991. The annual Boston regatta has become the world’s largest rowing event, and will celebrate its 55th year October 19-20. For more information visit https://www.hocr.org/the-regatta/.
